Why does Summer Solstice matter?
We are all pretty used to wishing each other a 'merry Christmas', 'happy easter', or 'happy Halloween' (for the sake of staying focused, I am not going to follow the tangent I wish to take on discussing the religious implications of this). But how often do you wish someone a happy solstice or equinox? How often do you acknowledge and connect with the moments that mark the shift of our seasons? At work today, I asked someone if they had a lovely Summer Solstice, and they said

The strength of sleep
Sleep really is the root of everything. It doesn't matter what health and well-being practices you participate in if you're not experiencing supportive sleep. It's easy to notice the difference when you have been sleeping well and feeling refreshed each morning, and then experience the contrast of a 'bad' night's sleep and how much it impacts you. I have found it impacts your mood and feelings around the day in general. It can also impact more specific situations and interact

No is a complete sentence...
...feels much easier said than done when you have existed your entire life feeling like it is your responsibility to make everyone around you feel valued, appreciated, and happy, even at your own expense. How many moments have you experienced where you have found yourself coming up with some elaborate or convoluted reasoning or justification for why you can't do or be a part of something? Overexplaining and oversharing an expanse of unnecessary information that nobody asked f

You don't have to explain yourself...
This is a statement similar to "no is a complete sentence", that sounds absolutely fantastic in theory, but in practice does not always feel so easy. It has taken me YEARS of being aware of unnecessarily overexplaining myself, and intentionally attempting to change that habit, to have arrived where I currently am. A place where I mostly no longer overexplain myself, but where I do still have moments where I notice myself offering more than I need or want to. How much I find m

A blue moon doesn't exist...
...if you don't prescribe to the notion of the modern Gregorian calendar. If you believe in living in a way which is connected with the natural rhythms of the world we live in, then it is impossible for a blue moon to exist. You might be asking what is a blue moon anyway? A blue moon is the occurrence of two full moons in one calendar month. Which in the UK at least we have just experienced in May. And despite seeing it touted everywhere I am here to tell you it doesn't mean

Do you know how amazing it is to have capacity for life?
Maybe you're reading this and you absolutely do not right now. Maybe you are reading this thinking, "shut the fuck up Matilda, I can't even begin to imagine having capacity for life". Maybe you're reading this and desperately wishing that you did know what that felt like. I get it. I really do. You might not believe me. You might be thinking, "it's all well and good for you" *insert any other potential assumption or perception about my life and my lived experience* Again. I g

I left my life behind 3 years ago today...
I packed my car and my mum's car with all my worldly belongings (and my dog) and set off in convoy to the other side of the country, and into the unknown of a whole new life. We didn't get off to the best start. A drive that should have only been 5 1/2 hours ended up taking over 9 hours (during a heatwave!!!). We eventually arrived hot, sweaty, and tired. (and I was very much trying not to take my voyage into my new life being so arduous as a sign from the Universe). Ready fo

What's stopping you? What narrative or thought pattern is still holding you back?
Truth be told it took me 15 minutes of staring at the screen and almost shutting my laptop before I started actually writing this. All of those little thoughts trying to tell me that I don't have anything worthwhile to share, that no one is going to bother reading an email I send, and who do I think I am to start writing a blog?! It would have been very easy to listen to those voices, to reluctantly agree and promise myself I would try again tomorrow. But who does that se
